Ascent, descent, and high/low points are sampled from Copernicus GLO-30 (copernicus-dem:glo-30) and remain provisional. Water, permits, and hazards were not taken from OSM tags and must be verified.
OSM 2D length is 35.9 km (relation 17094646; longest-component snap of parent ways). OSM tags from=滝尻バス停 (Takijiri bus stop) to=熊野本宮大社 (Kumano Hongu Taisha), distance=36, name=熊野古道 中辺路. That is the Nakahechi main line to Hongu, not the whole Kumano Kodo network and not Kohechi/Ohechi/Iseji. Published ~70–78 km / 4–6 days (tb-kumano.jp Nakahechi, sources disagree) describe Takijiri toward Nachi including Kumotori stages; those figures are cross-checks only, not this DataPoint. The OSM line stops at Hongu. Pass/spur variants (Ōkumotorigoe, Kokumotorigoe, Dainichigoshi, Yunomine, Akagi-goe) were not stitched.

Official campsites and designated lodging are logistics, not a trail permit. The dual-pilgrim credential is cultural, not a permit. No walking fee on that page.

Rail to Kii-Tanabe, then bus to the trailhead. The OSM line ends at Kumano Hongu Taisha, which is also on the Kii-Tanabe–Hongu bus corridor. Camping outside official sites (Chikatsuyu, Kawayu, Wataze, Koguchi) is discouraged (tb-kumano tips, checked 2026-08-24) — lodging logistics, not a walking permit.
