The Kii Peninsula's Kumano Kodo is Japan's marquee pilgrimage walk — forested mountain paths to the Kumano grand shrines. Our first record is the Nakahechi section from Takijiri-oji to Hongu Taisha, not the whole network and not the longer walk on to Nachi. There is no walking-permit line on the official tourism-bureau tips; the logistics are JR to Kii-Tanabe, a local bus to Takijiri, and lodging in designated villages.
