New Zealand's Great Walks are booked hut-to-hut circuits through alpine country. This catalog has two regions: Fiordland's Kepler Track, a loop from Lake Te Anau, and Tongariro's Northern Circuit around active volcanoes on the Central Plateau — a different walk from the famous Alpine Crossing day-hike. DOC hut and campsite bookings are required in season on both; Tongariro also carries genuine volcanic and extreme-weather hazard.
