Overland Track fees & season 2026/27

What it costs now

Parks Tasmania: “Overland Track Pass Fees apply from 1 October - 31 May inclusive.” Listed tariff: Adults $312; Children (17 years and under) $272; Concession $272. “The Overland Track fee includes park entry for the duration of your walk during the booking season. The parks pass is a separate product. In the booking season the Overland Track Pass already covers park entry for that walk. In winter there is no Overland Pass fee; you still need a valid Tasmania National Parks Pass (and a winter registration).parks.tas.gov.au · 2026-08-25

Why you’ll see A$160

Many secondary pages still quote an Overland Track fee of A$160. That is not the figure on parks.tas.gov.au on 2026-08-25. Do not use it. This encyclopedia’s Overland record already notes that the older A$160 lead is superseded.

Two seasons — do not collapse them

Parks Tasmania publishes two date lines. They are not the same product.

Summer / booking — 1 October to 31 May (inclusive)

Overland Track Pass required. Independent walkers travel north to south only (Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair). Up to 34 independent walkers may depart on a given date. The live page says “Book now for Summer 2026/2027.”parks.tas.gov.au · 2026-08-25parks.tas.gov.au · 2026-08-25

Winter — 1 June to 23 September (inclusive)

Tent, even with a pass

How long is the line we store

Parks Tasmania publishes 65 km / six days, usually treating Narcissus Hut as the walk’s end plus a booked Lake St Clair ferry. Our OSM line continues to the Lake St Clair visitor centre (Cynthia Bay). That extra length is the lakeside continuation — PWS notes 17.5 km along the lake as an extra day — not a Mount Ossa spur. Weather, public

Parks Tasmania: the weather can change quickly; severe cold, wet, and windy conditions can happen at any time of year, including summer. Deaths have occurred, including in summer, when walkers were not prepared. Grade 4: deep mud, steep and rocky ground, exposed alpine sections. Summer snow is in that alpine window.
