Portugal's first record is the Fishermen's Trail of the Rota Vicentina — Trilho dos Pescadores — cliff-top and beach walking from São Torpes to Lagos through the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. This is the coastal route only, not the inland Historical Way and not the whole Rota Vicentina network. There is no walking permit; wild camping is prohibited, trail running is banned, and 60–70% of the line is soft sand.
